Hale Navy Fireplace Accent Wall

Sometimes decorating paralyzes me with fear. Funny coming from a blogger who writes about decorating right? I supposed it does for many people. With so many choices and risk of changing something and then not liking causes us to never make a decision at all.

I’d been wanting to paint a room or accent wall in my house for the longest time and when I had so much Grizzle Gray paint left over from our basement bathroom renovation, I thought it would be the perfect use of the leftovers. I wouldn’t want good paint to go to waste.

But what did I do? I waited and didn’t make a decision at all. I thought maybe the living room or foyer would be good places. I even asked you all what you thought and the fireplace won. Still I thought and didn’t act.

Today I’m happy to tell you, I finally painted something! It’s the fireplace in the front foyer. Before more of the after pictures, which I just love, let’s take a look at the foyer before. This is one of my favorite fireplace shots. The wall color is Creamy Mushroom by Behr and as you can tell, I love neutrals.

This is a wider shot of the room, there’s the white and gray curtains I customized, and I recently moved those bookshelves up from the basement where they were storing craft supplies.

After seeing this post about the hale navy fireplace at the Young House Love show house, the light bulb sort of went off in my head. Navy, of course! I have navy all over my house.

And tons of accessories in between. Navy was the perfect color.

Last Friday on the way home from work I decided to stop in the local Benjamin Moore store. I keep hearing all about this hale navy color, it’s all over, and wanted to see what it looked like myself. I was all ready to buy a quart for about $23 when I asked if they had any oops paint around. Sure enough they did, they had a gallon that I could get for $8 and tint in whatever dark color I wanted. I guess that was the base color it was – they tint certain colors in certain bases. I walked out with an entire gallon for 1/3rd the price in hale navy and couldn’t wait to get home. I didn’t even sample it, I just walked in the store, ordered it up in my oops paint and headed home. After all, that hale navy is so popular, how could I go wrong? Sometimes you just have to take a risk with decorating.

No more talking, let’s see the after.

I kind of threw up some spring-y accessories on the mantel. They aren’t permanent, and of course I’ll probably still change them, although I do love the mint green cake stand, it’s from Minted.

This is a shot of the space from the living room. When I step back and look at this, I realize this hale navy accent wall is the perfect touch to the space. It was getting a little too beige and blah for me.

Boob light look out – you are on the list for a makeover too.

Navy Accent Wall

When you look to the left of the fireplace, there is a coat rack since we don’t have a closet on the first floor, and the new-ish grass cloth accent wall. I do love how they look together. And the blue mirror on the far wall on the staircase is the perfect accent.

Finally the pictures of this space are looking lively on camera. I’d always take photos of this and feel disappointed in how they would come out. It’s a lovely room in person, but the photos never looked great. Now I’m loving the hale navy accent wall and the grass cloth together.

The question now is, what do I paint with the rest of the gallon?

Plus, I’m dying over this pin. It kind of, almost, sort of looks like my house right? And this pin for a navy wall in a bedroom. Hmm, maybe I already know what wall will become navy next? 🙂
