My First Blogger Workshop

April 30, 2012

Happy Monday! Hope you had a lovely and relaxing weekend. Saturday I was so excited to participate in my first "public appearance" as a blogger. A local housing organization asked me to be part of their annual housing fair. And not only that, I was invited to do a workshop as well.

My topic was furniture makeover basics and I had such a fun time. Hello to all the wonderful folks who stopped by to talk with me at the fair and to those who attended the workshop!

The event was held inside a local school and was really well attended. This is my little set up. I brought some pieces from home as demos. In case you are wondering from right to left that is the seven layer silver dresser which resides in our living room, the chair is from the guest room which I found on the curb, and the zebra ottoman was my walk on the wild side piece.

I also brought some before and after pictures of some of my projects. People seemed to like looking through them. And I had some samples of paint and such that I used in the workshop.

There was a great crowd there with guest speakers to provide some information on housing and neighborhood development.

I got to talk with a lot of great people. These folks were interested in how to re-upholster their dining room chairs so I shared some secrets. {That's me holding the chair}.

Taking with Attendees

My favorite comments of the day were:

Who are you, Bob Villa's assistant?
You've inspired me to refinish this chair I have...
And there was a third but I can't remember it right now!

Then I got to do my workshop. I brought tons of supplies to show people what products I use including paint cans, a roller, and such. I also brought 2 drawers to show before and after stages. The little gold elephant is a recent estate sale find that got spray painted.

Here are all the lovely folks who put up with me jabbering for about 25 minutes on paint and respirators and sand paper. They were a fabulous crowd!

Workshop attendees

I even did some audience participation where I painted little pieces of wood to show them different types of paint and stain and we passed them around.

Here is the jabbering! Safety glasses, very important.

It was so much fun and I hope everyone who attended learned a little something. If you are new to this blog, welcome! Take a look through my projects page to see what I've been up to and please leave a comment to say hello :-)
