A Peek at the Grass Cloth Wall Paper
Monday, January 9, 2012
After a long seven months of ordering and waiting and ordering and waiting {and ordering for a third time}, I finally got all the grass cloth I need AND hung it up in the dining room. We started decorating the dining room last summer since it had not had anything done to it since we moved in and we use the room quite often. Time to give it some personality! See our progress here.
Although I was expecting the wallpaper part of the project to be done for my sister's wedding shower back in September, since I was told my wall paper would be in between 10-14 days, it ended up being on back order for three months.
Talk about a delay in your project!
So I waited and we finally got the first roll in around October. Turns our someone didn't measure and needed to order not one but two other rolls.
Yea that someone was me. I take full responsibility for this major oversight when doing wall paper. I didn't measure. I thought the double roll {which is the minimum you can order} were about 120 square feet, turns out they were 72 and we used 2+ rolls to cover the lower half of our 30 x 15 dining room.
Measure folks, even if you think you'd have enough!
But now let's get to the photos. This is not a how to, I'll explain that in another post, but I am so happy this installation is done! And now, grass cloth for your viewing pleasure :-)
This wall paper installation was not typical, in that our dining room as a plate rail and vertical slats all around the room. We cut each piece to fit precisely in the rectangles between the slats.
This is a nice close up of the paper with the trim and the wall color, which is Driftwood Grey by Martha Stewart in flat. I love flat paint! You need it in old houses and I don't know why I didn't paint other rooms flat sooner.
Our window film-ed windows let in tons of light but are completely private. I still have to make roman shades for them.
Some styling on the bookshelf. I like how the paper looks with all these elements, white, silver, wood. It's great texture.
I love this shot as well. You can see most of the room, but it's a close up of the buffet {which needs to be repainted, more on that later} and you can see the chandelier, the mirrors and the wall color.
We got that nice picture from our wedding framed for Christmas as a gift from my aunt and you can see a sneak peek at a silver candle holder I got on the right. Isn't it fun? Bath & Body Works, clearance. Go!
Grass cloth is done! Pfew. I'll show you how we hung in soon. Here are the dining room makeover tasks. Happy Monday!
Make curtains (if I buy fabric) and roman shades and hang them all
Buy frames (or find some) for other wall art I have planned
Decide which color to paint buffet and then paint it
Find new hardware for the buffet
Decide on/find other wall art?
Pick out and buy a rug
Throw a dinner party to enjoy our new room!
