The Writing on the Plates {Unique Housewarming Idea}
January 3, 2011
This past October was had a housewarming party at our house. It was a combo housewarming pumpkin carving gathering and we had lots of company and fun. Our guests got to carve their own pumpkins and participate in a surprise activity.
We had them draw. Yep, we gave them some markers and plates!
I had an idea to hang some plates on the wall in the kitchen, but I wanted them to be special so we had our guests decorate plates with well wishes and their own special notes to warm us into our first home.
They were totally unsuspecting :-) And that wall space behind them would be the future home of our new decor.

I got a bunch of white plates at thrift stores and HomeGoods. I wanted some with interesting shapes as opposed to just round, and I found some good ones. Then we just gave our friends some sharpies and they went to town.
Here's our housewarming plate installation.

Our guests wrote so many fun messages for us. Look, a pirate ship!

It was two weeks before Halloween so we got some spooky seasonal messages too. {Plus a llama named Pickles?}

We also got some sweet messages. Look, that's us in front of the fireplace :-) I love the stripes on the one below that.

We had 10 plates in all so I arranged them on the wall like this.

Come back tomorrow and I'll show you how I hung them up using Dischangers.
