Chocolate Covered Pretzels

The DIY Show Off Last night was my cousin's annual Halloween bash. The costume contest is very competitive, in fact last year my man and I won 3rd place, but I can't post photos, that would not be good.

This year we planned things all out, went shopping for costume parts and everything, but unfortunately the man got sick :-( He's been in bed at home since Thursday afternoon and definitely has cabin fever.

So I donned my half of the outfit and headed to the party myself.  Not before I whipped up some chocolate covered pretzels as a treat.  Here is my brief choco-pretzel tutorial as part of The DIY Show Off Fall Festival.  These treats are a little sweeter than the usual bowl of pretzels on the party table, and easy enough to make in 30 minutes or less.  Decorate them with any sprinkles or toppings and you'll have a party dish success.

My supplies: Cookie sheets, wax paper, pretzels, chocolate wafers, sprinkles and sugars.

I had some serious chocolate wafers going on.  Red, orange, white, black.  These are from Make 'n Mold and can be found in many grocery stores and at A.C. Moore.

First I melted the chocolate in the microwave at :30 second intervals.  Heat and stir, heat and stir, that's the trick to smooth melted chocolate wafers.  Then I used a basting brush to paint the chocolate on the sticks.  This is useful if you don't melt enough or have a deep bowl to actually dip them.  Before I placed them on the wax covered cookie sheet, I put some sprinkles and colored sugars on the sheet so the underside of the pretzels would get some sprinkle love.  Smart thinking, I know :-)

After I was finished with that group I put them in the fridge to harden just for 10 minutes.  Leaving them in longer is not good for the chocolate. Ten minutes is all they need.

After that bunch I painted chocolate on the mini knots.  More sprinkles and colored sugar made for some nice Halloween colors.

My son loves to make chocolate covered pretzels. I really like the way you decorated them.

These look so good! I love chocolate covered pretzels. We usually do the mini-ones with a chocolate melt in the oven then topped with an M&M. I want to give these a try! Thanks for sharing and linking to the Fall Festival! :)
